As a member of the Baby Boom I was raised in the innocent prosperity of the Post War 1950s. It was an era of honesty, trust, and the accepted knowledge that our government would do the best it could for its citizens. Americans took their roles as citizens seriously, actively participating in elections, grateful of their democratic freedoms. It was before the 24-hour news cycles, when smaller media ensured truth was disseminated more often than agenda. As the Vietnam War escalated an active antiwar movement cut across generations. We truly believed that change was in our hands.
Two years ago there was an historic election in this country. Voters turned out in droves as America’s interest in politics was reignited. That same desire for change, 40 years prior, took the country by storm. But the change we hoped for has not come. Despite the best efforts of some elected officials, Party Politics and the entrenched mechanisms of greed in government have not abated. As a result a variety of grassroots movements have sprung up across America, with people crying out for an overhaul of our system of government.
Americans need to be reaffirmed that their votes, their concerns, and their communities are more important to the officials they elect than the offerings of the deep pockets of special interests. They are tired of being second-class citizens to corporations and so am I. We must remove the “money talks” system and renew our government as one “of the people, by the people and for the people.” So I am running to represent my fellow Americans and bring our concerns to the floor of the US Congress.
One of Massachusetts’ most famous Patriots, Abigail Adams once said that, “Wisdom and penetration are the fruit of experience.” I am the only candidate with diversified business and technical background. My experience in manufacturing, international exportation, public works and small business has given me with the skills and knowledge to respond to the issues facing us in the 21st Century. Whether it is international trade or energy, I understand how to meld federal policy with local need.
Many are angered by our government’s current role. I ask them to revaluate their positions and ask why. We are not angered by the government, we are frustrated by the corruption and lack of accountability, we are not angered because the government takes too much, but because it delivers too little.
For too long we have relied on career politicians to change the system from which they have benefited. This election is our chance to right wrongs, to fix what has been broken. The greatest broken thing in America today, is not campaign finance reform, it is not education, it is not the war, but it is the public trust. My question to you is, “Why send back those who broke it, when they have shown that they are unwilling to regain
it?”
Thank You & Best Wishes,
Phil
